- Johnson & Johnson MedTech will present new research spanning heart recovery, high-risk coronary procedures and next-generation technology.
- The conference program includes clinical discussions, a health-economic model and further evidence on myocardial recovery and renal perfusion.
- Management is using the meeting to strengthen clinical dialogue around Impella and future heart-recovery treatment.
Johnson & Johnson announced on Thursday, October 29, that its MedTech business will bring a broad Impella research program to the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics conference in San Diego. The meeting runs from Saturday, October 31, through Tuesday, November 3, giving the cardiovascular franchise a prominent setting to present clinical and economic evidence.
The company said the program covers high-risk percutaneous coronary intervention, cardiogenic shock, myocardial recovery, renal perfusion, physiologic risk and next-generation technology. The presentations draw on more than two decades of clinical research, including randomized trials, prospective studies, registries and real-world experience, according to the Johnson & Johnson press release.
Clinical Evidence And Commercial Relevance
Johnson & Johnson said more than 50,000 Impella patients have been studied and more than 450,000 patients worldwide have been treated with the devices. The company also cited roughly 2,700 peer-reviewed publications and recognition in 18 clinical guidelines and consensus statements. Those figures describe the existing evidence base and treatment history rather than a new clinical outcome from the October announcement.
A health-economic model will compare Impella with an intra-aortic balloon pump in heart-failure patients undergoing high-risk intervention. The company said the model projects lower lifetime healthcare costs and greater quality-adjusted survival with Impella, although those projections remain model-based rather than observed results from a completed trial.
Other scheduled presentations include real-world evidence from the TRI-GUARD-PCI registry, an analysis of infarct-size reduction in the STEMI-Door to Unload trial and findings from the PROTECT III high-risk coronary-intervention cohort. The scientific program will also include prospective evidence from the Impella ECP pivotal trial and its continuing-access protocol.
Upcoming Events And Investor Focus
Johnson & Johnson MedTech plans an evening scientific program on Sunday, November 1, followed by a World Connect Symposium on Monday, November 2. Speakers are expected to discuss best practices, acute myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, high-risk intervention and the future of heart recovery. The company will also exhibit Impella technology at booth 4037.
