Jardine Cycle & Carriage investors are assessing Astra International's first-nine-month results after the Indonesian group reported resilient underlying earnings despite a sharp decline in reported profit. Astra released the figures on October 28, covering the period ended September 30, 2026.

According to Astra International, net income excluding non-recurring items was Rp24.6 trillion, down 1 percent from the prior-year period, while revenue remained broadly stable at Rp243.9 trillion. Reported net income fell 12 percent to Rp21.6 trillion, mainly because impairment and fair-value adjustments increased to Rp3.0 trillion from Rp244 billion a year earlier.

Automotive And Finance Offset Mining

Automotive net income rose 8 percent to Rp9.8 trillion. Higher vehicle volumes and stronger contributions from the components business supported the increase. Astra's overall automotive market share in Indonesia stood at 49 percent, while the national wholesale car market expanded 21 percent during the period.

Financial services also provided support, with net income up 6 percent to Rp7.2 trillion. Consumer-finance receivables increased 6 percent from December 2025 to Rp132.0 trillion, and new financing rose 8 percent to Rp92.5 trillion.

Mining Solutions & Heavy Equipment remained the main drag. Underlying net income in the division fell 28 percent to Rp5.1 trillion as lower coal quotas, weaker coal volumes and the earlier suspension of production at the Martabe gold mine weighed on operations. The segment nevertheless improved in the third quarter, when performance increased 15 percent year over year and Martabe production resumed.

Fourth-Quarter Recovery In Focus

Astra said higher mining-services volumes, the recovery at Martabe and continued automotive growth supported the third-quarter improvement. Management expects those factors to continue supporting performance in the fourth quarter, although the mining and heavy-equipment exposure remains a key swing factor for the wider earnings mix.
