- First-half net profit rose 16 percent year on year, while core profit reached a record level.
- Itochu kept its full-year net profit and core profit forecasts unchanged through March 2027.
- Management expects energy and chemicals earnings to slow in the second half.
Japanese trading house Itochu reported record first-half profit on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, while maintaining its full-year outlook. Yahoo Finance reported that net profit for the six months ended September rose 16 percent year on year to 580.5 billion yen.
Profit growth broadens across businesses
Core profit, which excludes extraordinary gains and losses, increased 33 percent to a record 504.5 billion yen. Non-resource operations contributed 427 billion yen, up 30 percent, while resource-related core profit rose 52 percent to 77.5 billion yen.
Machinery, metals and minerals, and energy and chemicals were among the main growth drivers. Stronger North American power earnings, improved coal operations and higher chemical market prices supported performance, while the sale of an overseas energy business added extraordinary gains.
Forecast stays unchanged
Itochu kept its full-year net profit forecast at 950 billion yen for the fiscal year ending in March 2027. The core profit target remains 900 billion yen, and planned annual shareholder returns stand at at least 604 billion yen through dividends and share buybacks.
Management expects energy and chemicals earnings to slow in the second half as supply disruptions for chemical raw materials ease. That outlook leaves the next reporting updates focused on whether gains in non-resource businesses can offset softer conditions in selected resource-related activities.
