Intuitive Surgical stock was last quoted at USD 405.18 on September 25, 2026, while the company’s latest dated announcement concerned a systematic review of outcomes associated with da Vinci surgery. Published September 8, the company-authored release described the analysis as covering more than 14 million procedures across 13 common benign conditions.

Evidence across surgical approaches

GlobeNewswire reported that the study compared da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery with laparoscopic and open surgery. Intuitive said the work was published in the peer-reviewed Annals of Surgery Open.

The analysis found that da Vinci surgery was associated with several statistically significant perioperative differences when compared with laparoscopic surgery. The release cited 54 percent lower odds of conversion to open surgery, 13 percent lower odds of requiring a blood transfusion, hospital stays approximately four hours shorter, and a return to work approximately two days sooner.

The company’s release also said the analysis found lower odds of blood transfusion, postoperative complications and surgical-site infection when da Vinci surgery was compared with open surgery. It reported shorter hospital stays and earlier returns to work in that comparison as well.

Scope and study conditions

The evidence base synthesized 14 years of published research from 32 countries. According to Intuitive’s announcement, the review included randomized controlled trials, prospective cohort studies, database studies and retrospective cohort studies.

Researchers examined procedures in gynecology, general surgery, bariatric surgery, urology and hernia repair, including hysterectomy, cholecystectomy and colorectal surgery. The work was led by Thomas H. Shin of Mass General Brigham and conducted by researchers from the University of Virginia, Mass General Brigham and Intuitive, the release said.

The announcement also included a qualification from the study’s lead physician: the appropriate surgical approach depends on the procedure, patient, surgeon and clinical setting. Intuitive Chief Medical Officer Jaime Wong said the analysis was intended to bring together evidence that had previously been distributed across hundreds of studies.
