- Infineon plans a major expansion of high-volume gallium nitride production in Villach.
- The project is aimed at power demand from artificial intelligence data centers, energy infrastructure, electric mobility and robotics.
- Production is scheduled to begin by the end of 2027, with investment continuing through 2034.
Infineon stock traded at 52.09 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 17:30 Berlin time on Monday, November 2, 2026, 3.03 percent above the Xetra close of Friday, October 30, at 50.56 euros. Since the company's premarket report at 08:07 CET, the stock has moved up from 51.55 euros to the latest quote.
The move puts the focus back on Infineon's power-semiconductor strategy ahead of its scheduled results on November 10. The company is expanding its Villach site in Austria to support high-volume manufacturing of gallium nitride power semiconductors on 300-millimeter wafers.
Villach investment targets power demand
According to an Infineon press release dated October 27, the company plans to invest around 1.1 billion euros in existing cleanroom facilities at Villach by 2034. Production is scheduled to start by the end of 2027, with the ramp-up aligned with customer demand.
The planned facility is designed to serve applications including artificial intelligence data centers, energy infrastructure, electric mobility, robotics and consumer electronics. Infineon says a 300-millimeter wafer yields 2.3 times as many chips as a 200-millimeter wafer, supporting a more efficient manufacturing model.
Funding strengthens the European project
The European Commission has approved 319 million euros in state aid under the European Chips Act. Infineon says the project should strengthen Villach as a competence center for power electronics and new semiconductor materials while creating links with universities, research institutions, start-ups and industrial partners.
For investors, the expansion offers a long-dated capacity and technology signal rather than an immediate earnings contribution. The November 10 results should provide the next scheduled opportunity to assess demand, margins and the pace at which the investment can translate into revenue.

European semiconductor shares remain sensitive to developments in the DAX and broader technology cycle.
