IBM and the United States Tennis Association announced on October 28 a five-year renewal that keeps IBM as the official artificial intelligence and cloud partner of the US Open through 2031. The agreement extends a relationship spanning more than three decades and follows record use of IBM-powered digital platforms during the 2026 tournament, according to the IBM newsroom.

IBM stock traded at 228.15 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 14:33 CET on Thursday, November 5, 0.04 percent below the Xetra close of Wednesday, November 4. The quote came as the US market partnership remained the latest prominent example of IBM applying hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence capabilities to a large consumer platform.

AI partnership runs through 2031

The renewal preserves IBM's role across the US Open's digital experience. IBM and the USTA have worked together for more than 35 years, beginning with the launch of USOpen.org in 1995 and the introduction of the tournament's mobile application in 2009.

Features introduced during the 2026 tournament included Live Updates, Key Moments and Serve Quality. The partnership is intended to continue combining hybrid cloud and AI technologies to provide match information and other digital experiences for fans.

Kameryn Stanhouse, IBM's vice president for sports and entertainment partnerships, said the renewal builds on the companies' long relationship and shows how complex data can be turned into experiences for audiences. Brian Ryerson, the USTA's senior director of digital strategy, said the partnership had produced innovation for the tournament and its fans.

Record engagement raises visibility

The IBM newsroom said the US Open's IBM-powered platforms generated more than 270 million total engagements across USOpen.org and the US Open app during the 2026 tournament. The USTA also reported more than 1.2 million attendees across the three tournament weeks, including more than 300,000 during Fan Week.

The USTA's owned and operated social channels generated more than 3.9 billion interactions, including engagements and video views, up 26 percent from 2025. ESPN's coverage of the women's and men's singles championships averaged 3 million viewers, while global broadcast viewing reached a record 374 million hours.

These figures highlight the scale of the platform IBM supports, but the announcement does not disclose the financial terms of the renewal. For investors, the agreement is therefore more relevant as a showcase for IBM's AI and hybrid cloud capabilities than as a separately quantifiable revenue contribution.

The broader US equity market is represented by the S&P 500.

Further technology rollouts and the commercial effect of IBM's AI and cloud investments remain the next issues for shareholders. More news and analyses on IBM stock will track the company's next developments.
