Hewlett Packard Enterprise said on October 20, 2026, that its Spaceborne Computer-4 is planned to run artificial intelligence and high-performance computing tests on the Moon. The announcement expands HPE's space-computing profile from orbital deployments toward lunar edge processing.

HPE's announcement says the module is scheduled to travel on Astrolab's FLIP rover during a mission targeted for late 2026 under NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services initiative. Voyager Technologies' Griffin-1 lander is expected to carry the rover toward the lunar South Pole region.

The planned experiments include large language model retrieval, visual-data analysis, autonomous monitoring and LiDAR processing for mapping, navigation and terrain analysis. HPE describes Spaceborne Computer-4 as lightweight, self-contained and fanless, with a low-power CPU, a GPU and flash storage supplied through KIOXIA solid-state drives.

Partners add specialized workloads

NASA plans to use the FLUID experiment to coordinate neural-network models trained on data from Earth, the Moon and the International Space Station. The agency also plans a language-model test for searching and interpreting onboard documents.

Deloitte is set to deploy Silent Shield for near-real-time cyber-analytics, intrusion detection and anomaly detection. HPE also plans to support Astrolab's mission control in Hawthorne, California, with HPE Private Cloud and CloudOps Software.
