- Chairman Young Liu sees room for Foxconn to lift its global AI-server share to 50 percent within a couple of years.
- AI infrastructure could contribute 60 to 65 percent of revenue within three to five years, excluding edge AI devices.
- Capacity is fully booked for at least the next year and a half, while higher US manufacturing costs favor products with stronger margins.
Foxconn is seeking a larger role in the AI infrastructure market, with Chairman Young Liu telling CNBC on Friday, October 30, that the company could capture 50 percent of global AI-server demand within a couple of years. The comments sharpen the growth case for Hon Hai stock as cloud providers and AI developers continue to expand computing capacity.
Liu said Foxconn's current share of the global AI-server market is about 40 percent and could reach roughly 45 percent next year before advancing further. He also expects AI infrastructure to account for 60 to 65 percent of revenue within three to five years, excluding edge AI devices that process workloads locally.
Foxconn's production capacity is fully booked for at least the next year and a half, according to Liu. He said demand has so far come mainly from AI model developers and cloud-service providers, while governments and enterprises have yet to adopt the technology at the same scale. Liu described current AI demand as strong.
US expansion brings margin trade-offs
The company is also moving further up the US supply chain. Liu said a broader manufacturing footprint should help Foxconn respond faster to customers, but higher US production costs mean the company will initially emphasize products with stronger margins, including AI server racks and data-center equipment.
That expansion carries a capital-allocation risk. Liu warned that overinvestment could damage the company and said annual AI spending could exceed the planned range of 3 billion to 5 billion US dollars if Foxconn expands its vertical integration. A slowdown across the AI industry would be more difficult to absorb than weakness from a single customer, he added.
Foxconn's own September revenue announcement, published on October 5, provides the next recent operating reference point for investors. The company has increasingly presented cloud and networking products as a central growth engine, although the conversion of AI demand into margins remains an important issue for the stock.
