Hermès International stock faces a tougher luxury backdrop as analysts delay hopes for a broad recovery. On Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the focus was on sector conditions rather than a new company announcement.

Luxury recovery remains delayed

An analysis hosted by the International Association of Department Stores and attributed to Bloomberg said weak Chinese demand, higher interest rates and fading pricing power had pushed hopes for a European luxury recovery further out. The analysis said Hermès and LVMH were near their lowest valuations in 12 years.

For Hermès, the valuation premium over the sector narrowed from 100 percent to 22 percent over 18 months, according to the IADS page. The shift indicates that investors are assigning less value to the group's historic resilience while waiting for clearer evidence of renewed growth.

Affluent customers drive demand

Luxury demand is becoming more concentrated among top-tier clients as middle-income spending weakens. That favors brands with scarce products and strong customer relationships, but it also raises the importance of retaining the highest-spending clientele as broader demand cools.

The MSCI Europe Textiles Apparel and Luxury Goods index was down 25 percent in 2026 and almost 40 percent from its record high, the IADS analysis said. Industry price increases are also expected to be the lowest since 2019, limiting a key source of sales and margin support.

Analyst views remain divided. UBS sees the downturn as cyclical, while Morgan Stanley sees limited room for multiple expansion over the next 12 months. Berenberg describes China's difficulties as structural, whereas Goldman Sachs sees 2027 as a possible turning point for mid-single-digit organic growth.

What investors watch next

For Hermès, the central question is whether brand strength and supply discipline can preserve pricing power through a prolonged slowdown. The narrower valuation premium means investors may require stronger signs of renewed growth before the stock regains its former relative standing.

Hermès International stock traded at 1,379.50 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 18:15 CET on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
