On September 17, 2026, GE Aerospace Chief Financial Officer Rahul Ghai said the redesigned GE9X engine seal should not delay the planned entry into service of Boeing’s 777X aircraft, Reuters reported.
GE9X redesign and certification
According to Reuters, GE Aerospace began shipping GE9X engines fitted with the redesigned mid-seal to Boeing in the third quarter. The company expects certification of the redesigned part from the Federal Aviation Administration in the next few months. The existing seal can be used for certification work already under way, while the redesigned production component is undergoing a separate FAA certification process.
GE Aerospace’s CPP agreement
In a September 8, 2026 Form 8-K, General Electric Company, operating as GE Aerospace, disclosed an agreement to acquire Consolidated Precision Products for a cash purchase price of $11.75 billion, subject to closing adjustments. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2027 and remains subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions, the filing states.
FAA approval remains the next milestone
GE Aerospace’s comments leave the production configuration dependent on the separate FAA certification process. The company’s reported position is that the redesigned seal is not expected to change the planned 777X entry-into-service timing.
