- FedEx exceeded analyst expectations in the quarter ended September 30 and raised its calendar-2026 revenue and adjusted earnings outlook.
- Jamere Jackson will become chief financial officer on November 30, while higher transportation, wage and fuel costs remain pressure points.
FedEx stock gained 4.36 percent between the Xetra close of Friday, October 23, and Thursday, October 29, as the company reported a stronger September quarter and raised its calendar-2026 outlook. FedEx's third-quarter release carried by Nasdaq showed revenue of 22.9 billion US dollars, up from 20.4 billion US dollars a year earlier.
FedEx reported adjusted diluted earnings per share of 3.74 US dollars for the quarter ended September 30, compared with 2.93 US dollars a year earlier. The result exceeded the 3.36 US dollar analyst estimate cited by CNBC. Adjusted figures exclude restructuring and other specified items; reported net income was lower because of a loss on FedEx's retained investment in FedEx Freight.
Higher forecast, mixed cost picture
The company raised its adjusted diluted earnings outlook for calendar 2026 to 18.00 to 18.60 US dollars per share from 16.90 to 18.10 US dollars previously. Its revenue-growth forecast increased to approximately 12 percent from approximately 11 percent, while planned capital spending remained 3.9 billion US dollars.
The outlook still carries execution risks. Higher purchased-transportation rates, wages, variable compensation and fuel expenses are expected to weigh on margins, particularly in the domestic business during the holiday quarter. FedEx also plans an average parcel-rate increase of 5.9 percent from January 4, 2027.
Management transition ahead
FedEx named former AutoZone executive Jamere Jackson as chief financial officer effective November 30. He will succeed Claude Russ, who has served as interim CFO since June 1. Investors are likely to focus on whether pricing, network optimization and cost reductions can sustain profit growth beyond the current guidance period.
