- Enel Chile's four battery projects are designed to support renewable generation and grid stability.
- Three facilities are expected to begin commercial operations in 2027, with Finis Terrae scheduled for 2028.
- Enel will present its nine-month results on November 12.
Enel's Chilean business is advancing four grid-scale battery projects with a combined capacity of 600 megawatts, providing a fresh operating signal ahead of the group's nine-month results. The update was reported by Argus Media on October 29, citing Enel Chile chief executive Gianluca Palumbo during a results conference call.
Chile Storage Pipeline Takes Shape
The projects will operate alongside existing solar and wind generation and use grid-forming technology. That technology is intended to help maintain voltage and frequency as renewable power expands, supporting a more stable electricity system while thermal generation is phased out.
Las Salinas is the first project in the pipeline. The 205-megawatt battery has recently connected to the grid and is expected to begin commercial operations in 2027. It is planned to become Chile's first grid-forming battery project. Valle del Sol, with 153 megawatts, and Azabache, with 94 megawatts, are also scheduled to start in 2027.
Construction of the 100-megawatt Finis Terrae battery began in August, with commissioning planned for 2028. Once all four projects are complete, Enel's battery storage capacity in Chile is expected to reach 800 megawatts. The portfolio therefore adds flexibility to Enel's renewable assets as well as storage capacity.
Hydro Supports Chile Earnings
Argus also reported that Enel Chile's January-to-September profit rose 11 percent from a year earlier to 390 million US dollars. Heavy rain since August lifted hydro generation by 3 percent to 8.2 terawatt-hours, supporting the subsidiary's performance during the period.
Enel Chile is the largest generator in the country, with installed capacity of 8.9 gigawatts, according to the Argus report. Hydro accounts for 41 percent of that capacity, while wind, solar and geothermal facilities make up 35 percent. Battery storage currently represents 2 percent of the total, leaving room for the planned projects to become more material to the generation mix.
Results Remain The Next Catalyst
Enel stock traded at 9.74 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 10:01 CET on Thursday, November 5, 2026. The quote places the stock in focus before Enel's scheduled presentation of its nine-month results on November 12. The battery pipeline offers investors a longer-term development theme, while the Chile earnings figures provide a current operating reference for the group's Latin American activities.
Investors should distinguish the subsidiary's project timetable from the parent group's upcoming results. The storage projects are planned investments rather than completed earnings contributions, so their effect on consolidated profit will depend on construction, commissioning and subsequent operating performance.
The Italian market backdrop is covered in the current market reports.
