- Third-quarter results exceeded consensus and preceded a higher full-year outlook.
Wells Fargo raised its price target for Elevance Health on October 27, 2026, citing improving Medicaid and health insurance exchange trends after the insurer's third-quarter performance. The bank lifted its target from USD 473 to USD 492 and retained an Overweight rating, according to Investing.com.
Medicaid trends shape estimates
Wells Fargo said upside in Medicaid and health insurance exchanges was beginning to flow through after positive commentary during the quarter. Medicaid, Medicare Advantage and exchange operations were all described as trending positively, lifting core earnings by USD 0.75 in the bank's revised view.
The bank increased its total 2026 earnings-per-share estimate by USD 2.00. The change included USD 0.75 from stronger core performance, USD 1.85 from one-time valuation benefits and a negative USD 0.60 tax effect. Its 2026 EPS estimate of USD 30.28 stood 4.5 percent above the cited consensus estimate of USD 29.33.
Growth extends beyond Medicaid
Wells Fargo projected EPS of USD 31.75 for 2027 and USD 39.40 for 2028. Those estimates were 5.3 percent and 15.4 percent above consensus, respectively. The analyst said solid earnings growth remained possible in 2027 even without additional Medicaid support, reducing the outlook's dependence on one business line.
The revised target applies a 12.5 times multiple to estimated 2028 earnings. Wells Fargo's scenario range ran from USD 369 under weaker Affordable Care Act and Medicaid margin assumptions to USD 586 under more favorable conditions and a higher valuation multiple. The range highlights the stock's sensitivity to health-plan margins, membership trends and policy-linked economics.
Quarterly results underpin revision
Elevance Health's third-quarter results provided the operating backdrop for the analyst change. Adjusted diluted EPS reached USD 6.99 against a USD 4.70 consensus estimate, while revenue came to USD 50.40 billion compared with a USD 49.32 billion forecast. The company subsequently raised its full-year outlook.
