- Ecolab's third-quarter sales increased 13 percent, while organic sales growth accelerated to 7 percent.
- Organic operating income growth reached 11 percent, with the organic operating margin expanding to 19.6 percent.
- Management expects 2027 organic sales growth at the upper end of its 5 percent to 7 percent target and adjusted operating margin of 20 percent.
Ecolab's third-quarter performance marked an inflection point for the water, hygiene and infection-prevention specialist, according to the company's earnings release published on October 27, 2026. Sales for the quarter ended September 30 rose 13 percent to 4.6948 billion US dollars, while organic sales growth accelerated to 7 percent. The Ecolab release said volume growth reached 2 percent and pricing accelerated to 5 percent.
Margins advance despite cost pressure
Reported operating income increased 7 percent to 810.5 million US dollars. Adjusted operating income rose 14 percent to 893.4 million US dollars, while organic operating income grew 11 percent to 872.1 million US dollars. The organic operating margin expanded by 70 basis points to 19.6 percent.
Pricing and productivity offset higher commodity costs and growth investments. Ecolab's reported gross margin declined to 44.1 percent from 44.8 percent a year earlier, while organic gross margin held at 44.9 percent. The distinction matters for investors because recent acquisitions carry different margin profiles during their integration.
Adjusted diluted earnings per share increased 5 percent to 2.18 US dollars, although CoolIT acquisition-related amortization and financing costs created an approximately 10 percent headwind. Reported diluted earnings per share fell 5 percent to 1.95 US dollars, and net income attributable to Ecolab declined 6 percent to 551.3 million US dollars.
Growth engines support 2027 target
Global High-Tech organic sales growth reached 63 percent, while Life Sciences organic sales increased 17 percent. Ecolab said Ovivo Electronics and CoolIT were performing strongly and together were expected to contribute about two percentage points to annual organic sales growth one year after closing.
Chief Executive Officer Christophe Beck said the company expects 2027 organic sales growth at the upper end of its 5 percent to 7 percent target range and adjusted operating margin to reach 20 percent. Management also expects adjusted earnings growth to accelerate in the second half of 2027 as acquisition-related effects become less burdensome, supporting its long-term 12 percent to 15 percent adjusted earnings growth target.
For 2026, Ecolab expects adjusted diluted earnings per share of 8.10 to 8.20 US dollars, representing growth of 8 percent to 9 percent. Fourth-quarter adjusted earnings are expected at 2.13 to 2.23 US dollars, with organic sales growth of 6 percent to 7 percent and an organic operating margin of about 20 percent.
