- DoorDash reported third-quarter revenue growth of 34 percent and record quarterly net income.
- The planned Instacart acquisition would broaden grocery reach but still requires shareholder and regulatory approvals.
- Management expects the transaction to close at the end of 2027 or in the first half of 2028.
DoorDash combined strong third-quarter growth with its largest acquisition announcement to date on Thursday, October 29, 2026. The company agreed to acquire Instacart for approximately USD 17 billion while reporting higher orders, revenue and earnings for the quarter ended September 30.
DoorDash stock traded at 160.78 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 10:12 CET on Saturday, October 31, 2026. A dated Xetra closing comparison is not included in this report, so the quoted price is presented without a direction or percentage change.
Instacart adds grocery scale
Under the agreement, Instacart shareholders would receive USD 65.00 per share, with at least 75 percent of the consideration paid in cash and up to 25 percent in DoorDash common stock. The offer represents a 26 percent premium to Instacart's closing price on October 22, according to DoorDash.
The deal would extend DoorDash beyond restaurant delivery and give it greater grocery and retail reach. Reuters described the transaction as a major grocery bet and cited regulatory approval as a principal risk. DoorDash expects closing at the end of 2027 or during the first half of 2028, subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals.
Quarterly growth stays broad
DoorDash reported 993 million total orders, up 28 percent year over year, while Marketplace GOV increased 36 percent to USD 33.9 billion. Revenue rose 34 percent to USD 4.616 billion, GAAP net income attributable to common shareholders climbed 91 percent to USD 466 million and adjusted EBITDA increased 41 percent to USD 1.060 billion.
For the fourth quarter, management guided to Marketplace GOV of USD 35.4 billion to USD 36.4 billion and adjusted EBITDA of USD 900 million to USD 1.100 billion. The outlook includes continued investment in new categories, international markets and the global technology platform.
For investors, the proposed combination offers a larger platform in grocery and local commerce, but the long closing period leaves execution, financing and antitrust review as important milestones. The transaction is not yet complete, and DoorDash and Instacart will continue to operate independently until closing.
