DoorDash is entering the holiday season with a broader consumer offer while third-party AI ordering remains limited. The company is adding fixed-price meal boxes, expanding catering and testing new ways to build orders through digital assistants.

MassLive reported on Wednesday, November 4, that DoorDash was rolling out 12-dollar meal boxes in more than 20 US cities, including Boston. The expanded catering service covers groups from 10 to more than 150 people, offers scheduled delivery and includes a 100% on-time guarantee, according to the report.

The rollout also extends the company's Ask DoorDash assistant to group orders. Customers can provide a budget, cuisine preference, group size and dietary requirements before receiving restaurant and portion suggestions. DoorDash said the meal boxes target a fixed item subtotal, while MassLive reported that prices average 30% below a standard restaurant entree.

AI ordering remains nascent

IBM reported on Thursday, November 5, that DoorDash Chief Executive Tony Xu said third-party AI agents had generated only a few hundred orders out of nearly 1 billion orders during the third quarter. The company is nevertheless developing its own tools, including Ask DoorDash and text-to-order features.

The figures leave AI ordering as a strategic option rather than a material volume driver. For investors, the near-term focus remains whether broader retail, catering and grocery capabilities can increase order frequency while the company integrates its planned Instacart acquisition.

DoorDash stock traded at 162.25 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 11:01 CET on Saturday, November 7, 2026.
