- Third-quarter GAAP earnings rose year over year, while non-GAAP operating earnings increased to 1.28 US dollars per share.
- Management expects 2026 operating earnings in the top half of its 3.45 to 3.69 US dollar guidance range.
- Dominion Energy reaffirmed its credit, dividend and long-term growth outlook.
Dominion Energy reported stronger third-quarter results on October 30, with higher earnings and revenue for the three months ended September 30. The company also moved its full-year operating outlook toward the upper half of its existing range, according to the Dominion Energy investor release.
Quarterly earnings accelerate
GAAP net income attributable to Dominion Energy reached 1.160 billion US dollars, compared with 1.006 billion US dollars in the year-earlier quarter. Diluted GAAP earnings increased to 1.30 US dollars per share from 1.16 US dollars.
Operating earnings, the company's non-GAAP measure, rose to 1.139 billion US dollars from 921 million US dollars. Operating earnings per share advanced to 1.28 US dollars from 1.06 US dollars. Dominion Energy reported operating revenue of 5.617 billion US dollars, up from 4.527 billion US dollars a year earlier.
The reported and operating figures are not identical. Dominion Energy said the quarter included gains and losses tied to nuclear decommissioning trust funds, mark-to-market effects from economic hedging, nonregulated asset impairments and other adjustments. For investors, the operating result remains the company's primary measure of underlying earnings power, while GAAP net income captures the full accounting result.
Guidance points to stronger finish
Management expects 2026 operating earnings to land in the top half of its existing guidance range of 3.45 to 3.69 US dollars per share. The company reaffirmed its operating earnings, credit, dividend and long-term growth guidance rather than raising the published range.
The release also highlights the limits of the outlook. Dominion Energy cannot provide a corresponding GAAP forecast because future effects from hedging, nuclear trust investments, pension items, transactions, weather and other adjustments cannot be estimated in aggregate. That distinction is important when comparing the operating target with reported earnings.
The company provides regulated electricity service to 3.6 million homes and businesses in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina, as well as regulated natural gas service to 500,000 customers in South Carolina. The utility profile gives the earnings update a relatively visible regulatory base, but results remain exposed to weather, financing costs, project execution and regulatory decisions.
Share price remains near-term gauge
Dominion Energy stock traded at 59.45 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 12:21 CET on Monday, November 2, 0.39 percent below the Xetra close of Friday, October 30. Investors can follow the real-time quote of Dominion Energy stock.
For the stock, the combination of stronger regulated earnings and a firmer full-year expectation supports the operating case, while the unchanged guidance range leaves less room for a material estimate reset. The next focus is how the company converts the improved year-to-date performance into fourth-quarter earnings without relying on unusually favorable weather or other temporary benefits.
