Deutsche Bank AG (DE0005140008) stock closed at €34.90 on August 28, 2026, and the shares were 1.35 percent higher on the day while the year-to-date gain stood at 5.42 percent. The latest mid-August review also put Q2 2026 net profit at €1.9 billion, up 10 percent year over year, with pre-tax earnings at €2.7 billion and diluted EPS at €0.57.
Buybacks stay central
The bank completed its €1.0 billion repurchase program on August 24 and started a fresh €500 million tranche the next day, capped at 50 million shares and scheduled to run until December 11, 2026. Between February 26 and August 21, it bought back 35.7 million shares, equal to 1.87 percent of share capital, at a volume-weighted average price of €28.00.
That gap to the current quote is meaningful. At €34.80 in the late-August review, the stock was only 0.6 percent below the 52-week high of €35.02, while the August momentum note showed a 47 percent rise from the March low and a 12 percent gain over one month.
Q2 shows the recovery
The same review said H1 2026 revenue was €3.448 billion, down 7 percent year over year, while net profit attributable to shareholders was €123.3 million, down 21 percent. For Q2 2026 alone, revenue was €1.946 billion, down 3 percent year over year but up 30 percent from Q1 2026.
Profitability improved faster than revenue. Q2 2026 net profit reached €82.4 million, up 30 percent year over year and 102 percent quarter over quarter, and the review cited an 18.9 percent gross margin, up 2.6 percentage points from the prior year.
Analysts still trail the tape
The late-August consensus snapshot put the average target price at €33.43, below the August 28 close of €34.90. That leaves the market a bit ahead of the consensus view, even as the share-price backdrop remains supported by buybacks and a stronger second quarter.
Corporate and investment banking
Deutsche Bank's corporate and investment banking franchise remains central to the earnings story, especially in cash management, trade finance, advisory, and markets activity. The August review tied the profit rebound to better cost control and stronger sequential revenue, which suggests that operational discipline is doing more of the work than top-line growth.
What the shares reflect
The 52-week high of €35.02 and the August 28 close of €34.90 show how tightly the stock is trading around its recent peak. For now, Deutsche Bank shares are tracking a mix of capital return, margin recovery, and a market price that already reflects much of the near-term improvement.
