- Third-quarter net profit fell 5 percent to S$2.81 billion as markets trading income dropped sharply.
- DBS is considering a prime brokerage business to expand its institutional equities franchise in Asia.
- Management expects mid-single-digit total income growth in 2027.
- Anthony Lim is set to succeed Peter Seah as chairman on January 1, 2027.
DBS Group reported a weaker third quarter on Thursday, November 5, 2026, as lower markets trading income offset gains in lending and fees. The Singapore bank is also considering a prime brokerage business, adding a strategic growth option to the earnings debate, according to The Business Times.
Trading Income Weighs On Results
Net profit for the three months ended September 30 fell 5 percent year on year to S$2.81 billion from S$2.95 billion. The result missed the S$2.95 billion consensus forecast cited by The Business Times. Markets trading income fell 65 percent to S$152 million, making it the main drag on quarterly earnings.
Other parts of the franchise provided support. Net interest income rose 4 percent to S$3.71 billion, while commercial-book net fee and commission income increased 6 percent to S$1.43 billion. DBS also declared a third-quarter dividend of S$0.81 per share, comprising an ordinary dividend of S$0.66 and a capital return dividend of S$0.15.
Prime Brokerage Adds Strategic Option
Chief executive Tan Su Shan said DBS is assessing whether to combine its existing custody, market access and trading capabilities into a prime brokerage offering. Such services can include financing, securities lending, custody and clearing for hedge funds and other institutional investors. No final structure has been announced.
DBS expects total income to grow in the mid-single-digit range in 2027. Management also sees mid-single-digit net interest income growth, continued wealth-management expansion and non-interest income growth that could reach the high-single-digit or double-digit range depending on market conditions.
