- Third-quarter net profit fell as markets trading income weakened sharply.
- Net interest income and fee income provided support despite lower margins.
- Management expects mid-single-digit total income growth in 2027 while warning of a more uncertain outlook.
DBS Group reported a weaker third quarter on Thursday, November 5, 2026, as lower markets trading income outweighed resilience in lending and fees. The Business Times said the bank is also considering a prime brokerage business.
Net profit for the three months ended September 30 fell 5 percent year on year to S$2.81 billion from S$2.95 billion. Markets trading income dropped 65 percent to S$152 million, with the bank citing unfavourable market conditions. The result missed the S$2.95 billion consensus forecast cited by the publication.
Lending and fees soften the hit
Group net interest income rose 4 percent to S$3.71 billion, while net interest margin declined to 1.87 percent from 1.96 percent in the year-earlier quarter. Commercial-book net fee and commission income increased 6 percent to S$1.43 billion, and treasury customer sales and other income rose 19 percent to S$685 million.
DBS declared a quarterly dividend of S$0.81 per share, comprising an ordinary dividend of S$0.66 and a capital return dividend of S$0.15. The payout was higher than the S$0.75 per share declared for the year-earlier quarter.
Management targets growth in 2027
DBS expects total income to grow at a mid-single-digit rate in 2027, supported by loan and deposit growth, wealth management and non-interest income. Chief executive Tan Su Shan said the outlook is more uncertain because of elevated energy prices, tighter financial conditions and geopolitical risks.
