- Danone's third-quarter sales growth exceeded the market expectation cited by Reuters.
- Price increases drove most of the gain, while volume and mix added only modestly.
- North American dairy execution and Mizone remain central issues for the outlook.
Danone reported better-than-expected third-quarter sales on October 28, while maintaining its 2026 targets. Reuters said the 4% like-for-like increase exceeded the 3.7% consensus cited by the company, adding a fresh benchmark for investors assessing the group's pricing power.
Pricing Drives The Quarter
Third-quarter sales reached 7.233 billion euros, according to Reuters. Price increases contributed most of the growth, while volumes rose only 0.4%. Chief Financial Officer Juergen Esser said Danone had raised prices selectively in Europe and the United States and had not seen significant price elasticity.
The mix of pricing and limited volume growth leaves the next phase of execution important. Danone reiterated its target for like-for-like sales growth of 3% to 5% in 2026 and recurring operating income growth ahead of sales.
Execution Risks Remain Visible
Growth was broad across the group, but regional details point to different priorities. Americas sales rose 4.4% like for like, while Danone continues work to revive its North American dairy business through new leadership and a stronger product pipeline.
In Asia Pacific, Mizone weakness in China reduced group like-for-like growth by one percentage point in the quarter. Adverse weather and inventory adjustments hurt the water business, although management expects the impact to ease in the fourth quarter because Mizone is highly seasonal.
