CSL stock gets US$1.6 billion Alentis deal for rare diseases
Published on 10/05/2026 at 15:30 | Editorial responsibility: Rafael Müller, Editor-in-Chief AD HOC NEWSCSL Limited (ISIN AU000000CSL8) was last at AUD 176.99 on the ASX on October 5, 2026, with a market capitalization of AUD 84.8 billion. The biotechnology group announced an exclusive Alentis partnership that places US$355 million upfront and as much as US$1.2 billion in commercial milestones behind lixudebart, a potential treatment for rare kidney and liver diseases.
Alentis deal sets a costly path
According to Alentis Therapeutics on October 5, 2026, CSL and Alentis will co-develop and co-promote lixudebart. CSL will fully fund the ongoing Phase 2 RENAL trial, a planned Phase 3 trial in AAV-RPGN, and Phase 2 studies in FSGS and PSC.
The commercial split gives CSL 55 percent of global profits and Alentis 45 percent once the medicine is commercialized. Lixudebart is being tested in 26 patients in an interim Phase 2 analysis, so the agreement expands CSL's development commitment before Phase 3 efficacy has been demonstrated.
FY2026 loss changes the picture
CSL's latest full-year figures cover the period ended June 30, 2026. Simply Wall St lists revenue of US$15.8 billion, up 1.5 percent from FY2025, and a statutory net loss of US$2.58 billion after a US$3.00 billion profit in FY2025.
The underlying result was less severe than the statutory headline. Underlying NPATA was US$3.1 billion in FY2026, down 2 percent, while the loss included substantial impairment and restructuring charges. That contrast makes execution on new clinical programs important because the Alentis deal adds funding risk while the core business is recovering.
Analyst target sits near the quote
Markets Insider reported on October 4, 2026, that Ord Minnett maintained a Buy rating and set an A$180.00 price target. The same published consensus was Moderate Buy with an average target of A$179.84, putting the target close to CSL's AUD 176.99 quote but in a different currency, so no target-to-price percentage is applied.
CSL's next formal checkpoint is its 2026 annual general meeting. The company says on its CSL investor page that the meeting will take place on October 27, 2026, in Melbourne.
CSL stock remains below its yearly high
CSL stock was last at AUD 176.99 on the ASX at 4:10 p.m. AEDT on October 5, 2026, up AUD 1.64 or 0.94 percent for the session. The AUD 90 to AUD 222.47 52-week range places the quote below the yearly high while the market values CSL at AUD 84.8 billion.
