Contemporary Amperex Technology retained its position as the world's largest electric-vehicle battery supplier through September 2026, according to a November 2 report by CnEVPost, which cited figures from South Korean market researcher SNE Research. CATL held a 39.1 percent global share, up from 37.5 percent a year earlier.
Scale outpaces global demand
CATL's battery installations reached 389.2 gigawatt-hours in the first nine months, an increase of 24.9 percent from the same period a year earlier. Global EV battery usage rose 19.7 percent to 994.5 gigawatt-hours, putting CATL's expansion ahead of the broader market.
The figures cover battery-electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and conventional hybrids. Global installations reached a monthly record of 145.1 gigawatt-hours in September, although year-on-year growth slowed to 15.8 percent.
Overseas customers support position
SNE Research said CATL continued to expand its overseas automaker customer base, while BYD's battery supply remained largely tied to its own vehicle sales. CATL and BYD together accounted for 54.3 percent of global usage, with BYD in second place at 15.2 percent.
Seven Chinese suppliers in the global top ten held a combined 73.0 percent share, up from 69.5 percent a year earlier. The concentration highlights the scale advantage of Chinese producers, while CATL's international customer mix gives investors a separate indicator for growth beyond China's domestic vehicle market.
