- State filings show planned layoffs across four US locations, with separations starting at the end of 2026 and continuing into 2027.
- Comcast plans more than 1,100 new positions while reshaping its organization and customer operations.
- The company says construction-related cuts in Washington will not slow network expansion.
Comcast's restructuring is moving from management plans to state-filed workforce reductions. A report published by Light Reading on Monday, November 2, said WARN notices cover 634 positions in Philadelphia, 159 in Washington, 119 in New Jersey and 82 in California.
Comcast stock traded at 21.35 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 13:14 CET on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Investors are weighing the workforce changes as the company seeks a more agile operating model while its connectivity businesses face pressure from changing customer behavior.
Layoffs span major operating locations
The Washington notice, filed on October 29, says the 159 separations are expected to begin on December 31, 2026. Some employees may remain in place into 2027, and potentially through March, to support business continuity. The New Jersey reductions are scheduled to take effect on January 27, 2027.
Philadelphia is Comcast's home market. The company is eliminating 634 roles there while also adding 500 positions locally, according to information cited by Light Reading. The California filing covers another 82 jobs. Taken together, the four notices account for 994 positions, although the timing of the filings differs by state.
Cost transformation carries near-term charge
The job notices follow Comcast's plan to book a fourth-quarter restructuring charge of more than 1 billion US dollars. The expense is tied to a broader operating and cost transformation that includes severance and related measures.
Comcast told Light Reading that it is fundamentally redesigning the organization to build a more agile company, serve customers better, accelerate innovation and compete more effectively. The company is hiring more than 1,100 positions across its operations, giving affected employees potential internal opportunities as the structure changes.
The Washington filings also offer a view of the roles affected, including financial analysts, administrative assistants, construction and facilities workers, human resources staff, sales employees and data analytics specialists. Around 40 construction positions are included in Washington. Comcast said those reductions do not signal a slowdown in network construction or upgrades.
Network expansion remains a focus
Comcast added about 780,000 residential network passings through the third quarter of 2026, putting it on pace for 1.04 million for the full year, according to the Light Reading report. That compares with 1.11 million residential passings in 2025 and keeps network reach central to the group's connectivity strategy.
For investors, the restructuring creates a trade-off between immediate costs and a potentially leaner operating base. The charge will weigh on fourth-quarter results, while the success of the plan will depend on whether new roles, automation and organizational changes improve execution without weakening customer service or network investment.
