- Chevron reported a strong third quarter, supported by refining performance and high production.
- TotalEnergies expanded its offshore partnership with Chevron through a new exploration transaction.
- Cash generation and portfolio expansion remain central themes for investors following the week's updates.
Chevron reported strong third-quarter results on October 30, while a separate offshore transaction with TotalEnergies added a portfolio expansion theme to the energy company's week. Together, the announcements put operating execution, cash generation and exploration exposure at the center of investor attention.
Chevron said it earned USD 9.9 billion in the third quarter, or USD 5.06 per diluted share. Adjusted earnings reached USD 10.4 billion, or USD 5.28 per diluted share, after a legal reserve, an impairment, pension settlement costs and negative foreign-currency effects. The figures come from Chevron's earnings release.
Refining Strength Supports Results
Chevron highlighted record crude throughput at its U.S. refineries and crude utilization of 98 percent. U.S. production was up 27 percent from two years earlier, while the company also pointed to expanded acreage in Venezuela and efforts to improve the competitiveness of its Bakken operations.
The results were accompanied by a separate offshore agreement announced by TotalEnergies on October 28. TotalEnergies acquired a 25 percent working interest in 26 Chevron-operated exploration leases offshore the United States. Chevron will receive a 75 percent operated interest in two adjacent exploration leases. The TotalEnergies announcement said the leases cover the Green Canyon and Walker Ridge areas, 150 to 250 kilometers offshore.
Cash Flow And Portfolio Reach
The earnings release also reported USD 16.6 billion in cash flow from operations excluding working capital and USD 14.2 billion in adjusted free cash flow. Those figures give investors a direct measure of the quarter's financial capacity, while the offshore transaction broadens Chevron's exploration position without changing its operator role on the 26 leases.
