- Cemex reported higher third-quarter sales, EBITDA and operating margins.
- Year-to-date free cash flow from operations nearly tripled, while leverage fell to 1.8 times.
- Management reaffirmed 2026 EBITDA growth guidance and expects pricing to offset higher energy costs in 2027.
Cemex reported stronger third-quarter operating performance on Monday, October 26, 2026, as higher pricing, improving cement volumes and savings from Project Cutting Edge lifted profitability. In an earnings-call report by MarketBeat, management said consolidated sales increased 8 percent year over year, while EBITDA rose 12 percent to USD 990 million and EBIT gained 19 percent.
Cemex stock traded at 0.97 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 11:07 Berlin time on Friday, October 30, 2026. The latest quote reflects the companys post-results trading context, while the earnings report remains the main driver of the current investment case.
Margins and cash generation improve
The EBITDA margin expanded by 80 basis points, helped by pricing, higher cement volumes and operational efficiencies. Cemex said EBITDA and EBIT have now delivered double-digit growth for five consecutive quarters, extending a period of improving operating performance under the transformation program.
Cash generation strengthened more sharply than earnings. Free cash flow from operations reached USD 723 million in the quarter, up 34 percent from a year earlier, while the year-to-date figure nearly tripled to USD 1.4 billion. Management attributed more than half of the year-to-date increase to EBITDA growth, with lower maintenance capital expenditure, lower net interest and working-capital effects also contributing.
Project Cutting Edge generated about USD 60 million in incremental savings during the quarter. Cemex said it had achieved 80 percent of its USD 475 million cost-savings target, leaving approximately USD 95 million of savings expected to benefit primarily the 2027 results.
Regional trends remain uneven
Mexico was the strongest regional contributor, with EBITDA rising 30 percent to USD 480 million as cement demand recovered and operational efficiencies took hold. In the United States, cement and aggregate volumes increased 4 percent, but EBITDA fell 4 percent to USD 259 million after an unplanned plant outage, higher raw-material costs and lower cement prices affected profitability.
EBITDA in Europe, the Middle East and Africa increased 4 percent to USD 257 million. Pricing and efficiency gains offset higher energy costs, although European volumes remained affected by heat waves, delayed infrastructure projects and a fragile construction recovery.
Guidance stays intact despite cost pressure
Management reaffirmed its full-year 2026 EBITDA growth target of 16 to 17 percent. The outlook assumes a Mexican peso exchange rate of 18.25 to 18.50 per US dollar in the fourth quarter and includes expected seasonal volume declines, higher maintenance costs of about USD 18 million and energy costs of roughly USD 17 million.
For 2027, Cemex expects mid- to high-single-digit energy inflation and plans to seek solid mid-single-digit price increases across its products to protect margins. Management described the 21 percent EBITDA margin target presented at its investor day as a floor, indicating that the company views recent margin gains as structural rather than temporary.
Leverage also improved. Net financial leverage ended the quarter at 1.8 times, already within the companys medium-term target. Cemex continues to balance debt reduction, growth investment and share repurchases while pruning assets that do not meet its return criteria.
