Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited signed a cooperation agreement with BME on September 16, 2026, to support battery-pack assembly and production in Egypt, according to the company’s announcement.
Egyptian battery-pack manufacturing
Under the agreement, BME plans to source battery cells from CATL. CATL will provide battery-pack technology licensing, production equipment and technical training. BME is an Egyptian battery manufacturer, and the planned facility is intended to assemble and produce battery packs for heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
Planned capacity
The facility, which BME is developing and fully funding, is planned to have an initial annual production capacity of 1 GWh. BME’s longer-term plan calls for annual capacity to expand to 5 GWh and for the product range to include passenger-vehicle battery packs and energy-storage systems. These details were reported in CATL’s company release.
Commercial-vehicle technology
In a separate September 14, 2026 release, CATL said it unveiled its TECTRANS II commercial-vehicle battery platform at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover. The company said the platform supports configurations with a maximum driving range of up to 1,000 kilometers and 80% charging in 25 minutes with megawatt-level fast charging, according to PR Newswire.
