Caterpillar stock traded at 555.80 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 15:35 CET on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, 0.33 percent above the Xetra close of Monday, November 2, at 554.00 euros. The move since the latest own report is separate: the quote was 548.50 euros there at 13:04 CET on November 3.
The company reported its third-quarter results on October 29. According to Caterpillar's quarterly results materials, sales and revenues increased 17 percent year over year to 20.7 billion US dollars.
Margins and earnings strengthen
Operating profit margin rose to 20.4 percent from 17.3 percent in the third quarter of 2025. On an adjusted basis excluding restructuring costs, the margin reached 20.6 percent, compared with 17.5 percent a year earlier.
Profit per share increased to 7.13 US dollars from 4.88 US dollars. Adjusted profit per share rose to 7.20 US dollars from 4.95 US dollars. The figures show stronger operating leverage as higher volume and favorable price realization supported profitability.
Backlog supports the demand case
Caterpillar said higher sales reflected 2.2 billion US dollars of additional volume and 663 million US dollars of favorable price realization. Chairman and CEO Joe Creed pointed to firm order rates and a record backlog, keeping demand visibility at the center of the investment case.
Enterprise operating cash flow reached 4.4 billion US dollars during the quarter, while enterprise cash stood at 7.9 billion US dollars at quarter-end. Caterpillar repurchased 1.2 billion US dollars of its shares and paid 0.7 billion US dollars in dividends, bringing quarterly shareholder distributions to 2.0 billion US dollars.
For investors, the stronger quarter improves the recent operating picture, but the next test is whether order strength and the backlog can sustain sales momentum while Caterpillar manages costs and maintains capital returns.
