Boston Scientific reported slower growth for the third quarter on October 28, as a cybersecurity incident disrupted manufacturing and shipments. According to the company's earnings release, net sales for the period ended September 30 reached USD 5.138 billion, up 1.5% from the prior-year quarter.
Growth was uneven across the portfolio. Cardiovascular sales rose 1.9% to USD 3.406 billion, while MedSurg sales increased 0.6% to USD 1.733 billion. By region, reported sales rose 4.4% in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and 16.0% in Latin America and Canada. U.S. sales increased 0.5%, while Asia-Pacific sales slipped 0.6%.
Cybersecurity disruption weighs on earnings
GAAP earnings per share fell to USD 0.40 from USD 0.51 a year earlier, and adjusted EPS declined to USD 0.73 from USD 0.75. Gross profit decreased to USD 3.428 billion from USD 3.542 billion. The release also included impairment, restructuring and litigation-related charges in the reported result, while adjusted EPS excludes specified charges and credits.
Chief Executive Officer Mike Mahoney described the year as challenging and highlighted the response to the cybersecurity incident. The company said the disruption affected operations, while management continued to emphasize its portfolio and innovation pipeline. The incident was first reported on August 26, 2026, according to the release.
Fourth-quarter outlook turns negative
Boston Scientific expects fourth-quarter reported and organic sales to decline between 1% and 3% from the same period a year earlier. Adjusted EPS is forecast at USD 0.77 to USD 0.79. For full-year 2026, the company projects reported sales growth of approximately 4.25%, organic growth of approximately 3.75% and adjusted EPS of USD 3.16 to USD 3.18.
The outlook gives investors a more cautious near-term frame than the company's longer-term product strategy. Boston Scientific began enrolling patients in the Elite AF trial for the next-generation WATCHMAN Elite device and received U.S. clearances for StoneSmart kidney-stone technologies and an expanded SEISMIQ peripheral lithotripsy catheter. It also entered a strategic collaboration with Heartflow on AI-assisted planning for coronary interventions.
