Boeing stock enters the new week with a record Avolon order and fresh 737-10 certification progress. Third-quarter cash flow also improved.

Commercial recovery remains uneven

  • Boeing reported third-quarter revenue growth, positive operating cash flow and a narrower GAAP net loss than a year earlier.
  • Avolon's finalized purchase strengthens the 737-10 pipeline, while Boeing continues to target stabilized 737 production.
  • Defense and services performance offset continued pressure in Commercial Airplanes.

Boeing's commercial recovery gained two new reference points during the week: a large 737-10 order from Avolon and third-quarter results showing stronger cash generation. The developments improve order visibility, but commercial-airplane profitability remains under pressure.

Avolon order expands the 737-10 pipeline

On November 4, Boeing said Avolon had finalized its purchase of 140 737-10 aircraft. The lessor's unfilled 737 MAX backlog rose above 240 aircraft, according to the Boeing announcement. Boeing also said lessors had placed firm orders for more than 230 737-10 aircraft during 2026.

The order follows the 737-10's amended type certification in October. Boeing said the 737 program was progressing toward stabilized production of 47 aircraft per month. For investors, the order supports future delivery visibility, while execution, certification and production-rate risks remain central to the commercial-aircraft outlook.

Quarterly cash flow improves while losses persist

In results published October 27, Boeing reported third-quarter revenue of 24.188 billion US dollars, up 4 percent from the prior-year quarter. GAAP net loss narrowed to 116 million US dollars from 5.339 billion US dollars, while operating cash flow reached 1.496 billion US dollars. Non-GAAP free cash flow was 464 million US dollars.

The recovery was uneven across divisions. Commercial Airplanes generated 10.720 billion US dollars of revenue but posted a 697 million US dollar operating loss. Defense, Space & Security produced 7.935 billion US dollars of revenue and 492 million US dollars of operating earnings, while Global Services generated 1.019 billion US dollars of operating earnings.

Boeing's total backlog reached 745.431 billion US dollars at September 30, including more than 6,300 commercial aircraft. The company's third-quarter release said the 737-7 and 737-10 had achieved amended type certification and that the 777X remained on track for first delivery in 2027.
