- Avolon finalized its purchase of 140 Boeing 737-10 aircraft.
- The deal lifts Avolon's 737 MAX backlog above 240 unfilled airplanes.
- Lessors have placed firm orders for more than 230 737-10 jets in 2026.
Boeing and aircraft lessor Avolon finalized an order for 140 737-10 airplanes on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The companies announced the transaction in a Boeing investor release.
Boeing described the transaction as the largest 737 MAX order ever placed by a lessor. It raises Avolon's 737 MAX backlog to more than 240 unfilled aircraft and gives the lessor additional capacity in the larger single-aisle segment.
Lessor demand supports the pipeline
Lessors have placed firm orders for more than 230 Boeing 737-10 aircraft in 2026, according to the company. Boeing said that figure is five times the lessor backlog for its largest 737 MAX variant at the end of 2025.
Avolon said the aircraft will help it respond to demand for new-generation jets and support airline fleet renewal. The lessor works with 138 airlines in 62 countries and had an owned, managed and committed fleet of 1,092 aircraft at September 30, 2026.
The 737-10 can seat up to 230 passengers and has a range of 3,100 nautical miles. Boeing says its large customer base and operating economics make the 737 family a core aircraft portfolio for lessors, which finance about 30% of all financed airplanes.
Execution remains the investor focus
For Boeing, the order improves visibility in the commercial-aircraft pipeline but does not by itself establish delivery timing or near-term cash generation. Investors will therefore continue to focus on production execution, certification progress and the conversion of backlog into completed deliveries.
