Bank of Montreal completed the sale of its Transportation Finance and Vendor Finance businesses to Stonepeak on Thursday, October 29, according to a BMO newsroom release. The transaction shifts most of the combined loan and lease portfolio to Stonepeak while keeping BMO involved through a retained minority interest and transitional services.

Stonepeak takes majority portfolio

At closing, BMO transferred approximately 75 percent of the estimated C$14.5 billion combined portfolio to Stonepeak. The transferred portion represented about C$11 billion, while the remaining balances are expected to move in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, subject to customary closing conditions.

The businesses will operate under the name Longview Capital Solutions. BMO and Stonepeak also agreed that BMO will provide transitional services to support an orderly client handover. The arrangement keeps BMO connected to the business during the transition without leaving the full portfolio with the bank.

Capital impact remains forward-looking

BMO said the transaction is expected to improve its common equity Tier 1 ratio by approximately 23 basis points in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026. That is a company expectation rather than a completed capital result, and BMO cautioned that the timing of the remaining transfer and the expected benefit depend on conditions being satisfied.

BMO stock traded at 153.09 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 10:38 CET on Monday, November 2, 2026. Investors may therefore focus on the balance-sheet effect of the completed transfer, the timing of the remaining portfolio migration and the continuing economic exposure from BMO's 19.9 percent interest in the Stonepeak-managed entity.
