- Management lifted its first-half fiscal 2027 underlying EBIT outlook on stronger North American and Australian operating trends.
- Higher steel spreads, improved volumes and resilient domestic demand are supporting the revised outlook.
- The annual general meeting on November 16 will provide the next formal operating update.
BlueScope upgraded its first-half fiscal 2027 underlying EBIT outlook on Monday, October 26, with management expecting earnings before interest and tax to approach AUD 1.1 billion. The company said the revised view is above its previous guidance range of AUD 860 million to AUD 960 million in a BlueScope announcement.
North American spreads drive upgrade
BlueScope said stronger US steel spreads are the main driver, led by North Star. The company also cited higher-than-expected despatch volumes following a debottlenecking project, alongside improved performance at Buildings and Coated Products North America.
North American operating conditions remain favourable, according to CEO Tania Archibald. BlueScope said stronger volumes and realised prices at Steelscape, as well as improved operating margins at Buildings North America, have lifted expectations for the region.
Australia adds further support
Australian Steel Products is expected to deliver earnings approaching double its second-half fiscal 2026 result. Resilient domestic demand, stronger despatch volumes and improved realised spreads are expected to outweigh slightly softer benchmark-spread assumptions.
The upgraded outlook gives investors a higher near-term earnings reference point, but steel spreads, demand and realised prices remain central variables for the result. BlueScope said earnings across its remaining businesses are broadly in line with the expectations included in its August update.
AGM is the next checkpoint
