Blackstone has taken a central credit role in a new financing structure for Anthropic's artificial-intelligence infrastructure. On October 26, 2026, Blackstone, Bank of America, Citi and Morgan Stanley announced the transaction through a newly formed special purpose vehicle.
According to the Blackstone press release, the vehicle will purchase Broadcom XPU AI accelerators and networking solutions and lease them to Anthropic. The transaction is part of a previously announced compute-capacity agreement involving Broadcom, with deliveries expected to begin in calendar 2027.
Blackstone takes the junior credit role
Bank of America, Citi and Morgan Stanley are arranging the first-lien portion of the financing. Blackstone is the sole provider of the committed portion of the second-lien financing, giving the alternative asset manager a distinct role in a layered capital structure rather than a position as a senior lender.
Broadcom is providing residual-value support to the special purpose vehicle for an amount equivalent to the first-lien portion. That support is intended to protect the senior financing against a decline in the value of the equipment, while Blackstone's second-lien position carries a lower priority in a potential recovery.
For investors, the structure illustrates how Blackstone is extending its credit business into the financing of physical AI infrastructure. The arrangement also exposes the firm to the execution of a large equipment-leasing program and to the credit quality of the underlying lessee. The announcement does not disclose Blackstone's individual dollar commitment, pricing or expected return.
AI demand expands the credit opportunity
Blackstone President and Chief Operating Officer Jon Gray said that rapidly growing AI demand is creating an opportunity to finance compute capacity at scale. The company said its assets under management were nearly 1.4 trillion US dollars and covered credit, infrastructure, private equity, real estate, life sciences, growth equity, secondaries and hedge funds.
The investment case is therefore broader than a single Anthropic transaction. AI developers require substantial computing capacity, while banks and private-market managers are building financing structures around chips, networking equipment and lease payments. Blackstone can use its credit platform to participate in that capital demand, but the economics will depend on equipment utilization, lease performance and the eventual value of the hardware.
