BIST 100 closes 0.56 percent lower as rate-cut hopes meet caution

Inflation and policy signals
September consumer inflation slowed to 29.73 percent annually from 31.51 percent in August, below the 30.3 percent market expectation. Monthly inflation was 1.84 percent, according to Anadolu Agency.
Central Bank Governor Fatih Karahan told lawmakers that disinflation should regain momentum if supply pressures ease and that monetary policy would remain cautious, Reuters reported. The comments followed expectations that the cooler inflation reading had strengthened the case for a 100-basis-point rate cut at the October 22 meeting, according to Hurriyet Daily News.
Market breadth and currency
Losses in leasing and factoring, insurance, and chemical, petroleum and plastics shares led the decline. Advancing stocks were outnumbered 374 to 248, with 22 unchanged, according to Investing.com. The USD/TRY rate was 49.00 at 6:20 p.m. local time, while Brent crude stood at USD 98.37, Anadolu Agency said.
Investors next await Turkey's October 22 monetary policy decision. The central bank's policy rate was last held at 37 percent, according to TRT Haber.
