BAWAG Group's planned acquisition of Permanent TSB remains on schedule after the Irish lender reported stronger operating performance for the first nine months of 2026. In a trading statement carried by MarketScreener on October 30, Permanent TSB said the proposed sale to BAWAG was progressing as planned.

Completion is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026 or the first quarter of 2027, subject to court and regulatory approval. The timetable keeps the transaction as a central execution milestone for BAWAG's pan-European expansion strategy, but the statement does not remove the remaining approval risk.

Irish Bank Reports Stronger Operations

Permanent TSB's total operating income rose 7 percent year over year in the first nine months. Net interest income increased 9 percent, while the net interest margin reached 2.14 percent, 13 basis points higher than in the comparable period.

Total operating costs fell 2 percent, bringing the cost-income ratio down to 70 percent from 77 percent. The bank attributed the improvement to lower headcount, tighter supplier-cost controls and reduced change spending. It also reported an impairment write-back equivalent to 6 basis points of loans, while non-performing loans represented 1.3 percent of gross loans at the end of September.

Loan Growth Supports Deal Narrative

Gross customer loans increased to 23.4 billion euros, more than 4 percent above the prior-year level. New mortgage lending rose 10 percent, new business lending increased 16 percent and new personal term lending climbed 90 percent. Customer deposits reached 25.8 billion euros, up 2 percent year over year.

Permanent TSB said its pro forma common equity tier 1 ratio stood at 17.9 percent at the end of September, compared with 17.5 percent at the end of 2025 on a like-for-like basis. Chief Executive Eamonn Crowley said the bank's funding and capital positions remained strong and that trading conditions were supported by a resilient Irish economy.

The bank maintained its outlook for a return on tangible equity above 9 percent in 2026. For BAWAG investors, the update provides operating context for the planned transaction, but the financial contribution to BAWAG's own targets will depend on closing and subsequent integration.

BAWAG Group stock traded at 162.60 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 10:11 CET on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
