BASF stock gains as higher outlook meets restructuring test

Published on 11/07/2026 at 11:44 | Editorial responsibility: Rafael Müller, Editor-in-Chief AD HOC NEWS
BASF stock ended the week higher after the company lifted its adjusted 2026 earnings outlook. Restructuring and cash flow remain key investor tests.

Outlook improves, restructuring remains

  • BASF raised its 2026 adjusted EBITDA forecast after stronger prices and volumes supported third-quarter performance.
  • Reported earnings remained under pressure from restructuring charges, an impairment and weaker operating cash flow.
  • Investors continue to weigh core-business momentum against raw-material costs and restructuring execution.

BASF stock traded at 54.04 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 11:41 CET on Saturday, November 7, 2026, 0.44 percent below the Xetra close of Friday, November 6. Across the week, the shares gained 1.53 percent between the Xetra closes of October 30 and November 6.

Higher prices lift adjusted outlook

In a report published on November 6, PCI Magazine said BASF benefited from higher selling prices and improved results in core businesses during the third quarter. BASF reported third-quarter sales of 16.4 billion euros, up 14 percent from the prior-year period, while EBITDA before special items increased 15 percent to 1.6 billion euros.

The company lifted its 2026 forecast for EBITDA before special items to between 7.4 billion and 7.8 billion euros. The previous range was 6.9 billion to 7.7 billion euros. Higher prices contributed 12 percentage points to third-quarter sales growth, while volumes added 2 percentage points.

Reported earnings face pressure

The adjusted improvement did not fully carry through to reported results. EBITDA was unchanged at 1.2 billion euros, while special items totaled negative 437 million euros, mainly reflecting restructuring expenses at Ludwigshafen and a legal settlement in Care Chemicals. BASF also recorded a 318 million euro impairment in its Monomers division.

Operating cash flow declined to 1.1 billion euros as inventories absorbed cash, although free cash flow rose to 523 million euros. BASF maintained its full-year free-cash-flow forecast of 1.5 billion to 2.3 billion euros.

For investors, the higher adjusted outlook supports the earnings case, but restructuring costs, raw-material prices and working-capital demands remain important constraints. The combination leaves the shares sensitive to evidence that stronger core-business performance can translate into reported profit and cash generation.
