- Barrick plans expanded exploration at Ontario's Pen Gold Project under its earn-in agreement with GFG Resources.
- Initial diamond drilling is tentatively targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027, while the program remains subject to confirmation.
- The project offers a longer-dated exploration option but no immediate production contribution.
Barrick Mining has outlined a broader exploration program at the Pen Gold Project in Ontario, adding a longer-term growth option ahead of its November 9 quarterly results. GFG Resources described the plan in a November 2 release carried by BNN Bloomberg.
Exploration Plan Extends Into 2027
Barrick is funding and operating the work under an earn-in agreement with GFG Resources. The plan builds on a US$500,000 exploration program in 2026 and includes a property-wide airborne gravity survey in the fourth quarter of 2026 to support geological interpretation and target generation.
The proposed 2027 campaign includes approximately 240 base-of-till holes, followed by geological mapping and rock sampling in the second and third quarters. Initial diamond drilling is tentatively planned for the fourth quarter of 2027, although the scope and timing remain subject to confirmation.
Commitment Supports Longer-Term Option
Barrick has committed to spend at least C$4.0 million during the first three years of the earn-in agreement, including a minimum of 5,000 metres of diamond drilling before the agreement's third anniversary. GFG said initial mapping and rock-sampling work was completed in September and October, with approximately 130 rock samples collected for analysis.
For investors, Pen adds an exploration option rather than an immediate production driver. The program is intended to refine gold anomalies and identify drill targets, but it does not establish a resource estimate or near-term output forecast. Progress will depend on exploration results, permitting and successful drill testing.
