Barrick Mining is expanding exploration at the Pen Gold Project in Ontario, adding a longer-dated development option ahead of potential diamond drilling. GFG Resources outlined the planned work in a November 2 release carried by GlobeNewswire.

Barrick completed an initial US$500,000 exploration program in 2026 and plans a broader 2027 campaign. The work will combine property-wide geophysics, systematic till sampling, geological mapping and target evaluation before any initial diamond drilling.

Pen Gold Program Extends Exploration Horizon

The proposed sequence starts with an airborne gravity survey across the property in the fourth quarter of 2026. In the first quarter of 2027, Barrick plans approximately 240 base-of-till holes, comprising priority-area holes and infill work designed to refine gold anomalies and trace them toward possible bedrock sources.

Additional mapping and rock sampling are planned for the second and third quarters of 2027. Barrick intends to combine those results with geophysical data, till geochemistry and existing drilling to update its geological and structural interpretation. Initial diamond drilling is tentatively targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027 and could continue into the first half of 2028.

The exploration plan follows an earn-in agreement announced with GFG in August. Barrick has committed to spend at least C$4.0 million during the first three years, including a minimum of 5,000 metres of diamond drilling before the agreement’s third anniversary. GFG said initial mapping and rock sampling were completed in September and October, with approximately 130 rock samples collected for analysis.

GFG President and CEO Brian Skanderbeg said the program would bring funding and technical expertise to the next exploration phase. The company said the work is intended to refine existing anomalies and generate new targets, while its own capital remains focused on the Aljo and Goldarm properties.

Near-Term Focus Remains Quarterly Results

Pen Gold adds exploration optionality but remains a prospective project rather than a near-term production driver. For investors, the immediate operational reference point is Barrick’s third-quarter report. In an company announcement, Barrick said results will be released before markets open on Monday, November 9, at 6:00 a.m. Eastern Time, followed by a webcast and analyst question-and-answer session at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time.
