Barclays cut its Conagra Brands target from USD 17.00 to USD 16.00 on October 2, 2026, while retaining an Overweight rating, according to Markets Insider. The move followed Conagra Brands' fiscal 2027 first-quarter results, which combined higher adjusted earnings with lower sales.
Sales fell as earnings improved
In the fiscal 2027 first quarter ended August 30, 2026, Conagra Brands reported net sales of USD 2.60 billion, down 1.40 percent from USD 2.63 billion a year earlier. Reported net income increased 6.00 percent to USD 174.30 million, while diluted earnings per share rose 5.90 percent to USD 0.36 from USD 0.34.
The adjusted figures point to a similar split. Adjusted earnings per share rose 5.10 percent to USD 0.41 from USD 0.39, and adjusted operating margin reached 11.50 percent, although that margin was 33 basis points below the prior-year level. These figures come from Conagra Brands in its September 30, 2026 results release.
Volume pressure shapes guidance
Organic net sales declined 1.10 percent in the fiscal 2027 first quarter as volume fell 2.10 percent, partly offset by a 1.00 percent price-and-mix benefit. The contrast was visible across operations: Foodservice organic sales increased 3.30 percent, while Grocery and Snacks organic sales fell 2.00 percent.
Management reaffirmed fiscal 2027 guidance of a 1.00 percent to 3.00 percent organic sales decline, an adjusted operating margin of 10.00 percent to 10.50 percent, and adjusted earnings per share of USD 1.40 to USD 1.50. Net debt stood at USD 7.39 billion on August 30, 2026, with a net leverage ratio of 3.99 times.
