Banco Santander reported a 19% year-over-year increase in third-quarter underlying profit to EUR 3.8 billion, adding a fresh operating detail to its record nine-month result. The figures cover the quarter ended September 30 and were published on October 28 by Santander.
Underlying profit reached EUR 11.176 billion in the first nine months, up 16% from the prior-year period. Revenue increased 8% to EUR 46.807 billion, while Santander said its ONE Transformation programme continued to improve efficiency. Banco Santander stock traded at EUR 10.67 on Lang & Schwarz at 17:04 CET on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
Underlying Growth And Integration Costs
The bank said higher customer activity and revenue growth supported the quarterly result. Loans and customer funds each rose 16% in constant euros, although excluding the acquisitions of TSB and Webster, loan growth was 6% and customer-fund growth was 8%.
Attributable profit for the first nine months reached EUR 12.405 billion, up 20%. The statutory figure included a EUR 1.9 billion capital gain from the disposal of Santander Bank Polska and EUR 666 million of charges, including integration costs for TSB and Webster. The underlying measure excludes these non-recurring items and is intended to show operating performance more consistently.
Targets And Shareholder Returns
Santander reiterated its 2026 targets: mid-single-digit revenue growth, lower costs in constant euros, profit above the EUR 14.1 billion reported in 2025 and a year-end CET1 ratio between 12.8% and 13%. The CET1 ratio stood at 12.7% at the end of September.
The bank also maintained its 2028 ambitions of a return on tangible equity above 20%, profit above EUR 20 billion and more than 210 million customers. The interim cash dividend of 12.70 euro cents per share was paid on November 2, while a buyback programme of up to approximately EUR 1.8 billion was under way.
