BAE Systems introduced a new family of modular naval gun systems at Euronaval 2026 in Paris on November 3. The company said the range is designed to address air, surface and shore-based threats while giving navies and maritime operators different levels of sensor integration, fire control and deployment flexibility. The announcement was detailed in the BAE Systems newsroom.

A scalable naval defense portfolio

The family comprises Sea Tridon, the containerized Sea Tridon C, Sea Trinity and the Bofors 40 Mk4 Naval Gun. Sea Tridon combines a Bofors 40mm gun with an integrated electro-optical fire-control system. BAE Systems said this configuration is intended to provide greater operational independence and simplify installation on vessels.

Sea Tridon C packages the system in a container for rapid installation on military, government or commercial vessels that require temporary or mission-specific self-protection. Sea Trinity is the most integrated option, combining the Bofors 40mm gun, programmable 3P ammunition and radar fire control in a close-in weapon system designed to counter missiles, drones and other high-speed threats.

The Bofors 40 Mk4 remains the established naval gun in the range and is designed to integrate with ship combat systems. BAE Systems said all four configurations share the Bofors 3P programmable ammunition. The round can be configured immediately before firing and offers six programmable fuze modes for different target types.

Lena Gillström, president of BAE Systems Bofors, said the changing maritime threat environment is increasing demand for flexible protection solutions. She said customers can select the capability level suited to their operational needs while retaining a common platform, technology base and ammunition family.

The launch broadens BAE Systems' maritime offering, but the company did not announce a customer, order value or delivery timetable in the newsroom release. The commercial significance therefore depends on future selections, integrations and orders rather than on a disclosed contract at launch. Euronaval runs through November 6, with Sea Tridon displayed at the BAE Systems stand E30.
