AXA reported resilient growth for the first nine months of 2026, while elevated natural catastrophe activity in Europe weighed on its capital ratio. In a press release published on October 29, the French insurer said gross written premiums and other revenues rose 5 percent on a comparable basis from the first nine months of 2025 to 93.0 billion euros.
Property and casualty premiums increased 3 percent to 48.1 billion euros. Retail premiums advanced 7 percent, supported by a 4 percentage-point price contribution and a 3 percentage-point volume contribution. Commercial premiums grew 1 percent, including 4 percent growth in commercial business excluding AXA XL, while AXA XL Insurance declined 1 percent.
Life and health drive premium growth
Life and health premiums rose 7 percent to 44.8 billion euros, with both businesses expanding at the same rate. New-business contractual service margin in Life and Health increased 1 percent, while net flows reached 6.0 billion euros.
AXA said natural catastrophe activity was elevated in Europe during the third quarter. The company nevertheless said its diversified business model and prudent reserving supported confidence in delivering underlying earnings per share growth at the top end of its 2026 plan range.
AXA reaffirmed its expectation of underlying earnings of about 8.6 billion euros for 2026. It also retained its target ranges of 6 to 8 percent for underlying earnings per share growth and 14 to 16 percent for underlying return on equity. The outlook assumes no significant deterioration in natural catastrophe charges, pricing or market conditions.
Capital ratio remains a key watchpoint
The Solvency II ratio stood at 213 percent on September 30, down five points from June 30. AXA attributed the movement to financial market effects, dividend accruals and share buybacks more than offsetting a strong operating return.
AXA stock traded at 42.47 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 15:09 CET on Monday, October 26, 2026. Investors can follow the real-time quote of AXA stock.
