AXA put capital markets in focus during the week with a new subordinated debt issue. The insurer announced the placement on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, after the Paris market close.
According to AXA, institutional investors subscribed to EUR 750 million of Reg S subordinated notes due in 2057. The company said it will use the proceeds for general corporate purposes, including the refinancing of part of its outstanding debt.
Debt issue supports capital planning
The notes pay a fixed annual interest rate of 5.375% until May 25, 2037, the first call date. After that point, the coupon will float at three-month EURIBOR plus 295 basis points. The securities qualify as Tier 2 capital under Solvency II within applicable limits.
AXA said the notes are expected to receive ratings of A from S&P Global Ratings and A1 (hyb) from Moody's. For investors, the issue adds a financing and capital-management element to the insurance group's operating outlook, while the long maturity and subordinated ranking remain relevant to credit risk.
