- Fastmarkets reported a record copper premium of 347 US dollars per tonne for Aurubis deliveries to European customers in 2027.
- The premium is 10.2 percent above the 2026 level, while market participants gave mixed views on demand and spot conditions.
- The reported premium is a market indicator rather than confirmed company guidance.
Fastmarkets reported on October 14 that Aurubis had raised its copper premium for European customers to 347 US dollars per tonne for contractual deliveries in 2027. The premium is paid on top of the London Metal Exchange copper price and marks a record annual level for the company.
The premium is 10.2 percent above the 315 US dollar level for 2026, according to Fastmarkets. Aurubis declined to comment to the publication, saying such communications are between the company and its customers.
Market backdrop remains mixed
Market participants cited different expectations for the premium. Some saw a higher level as consistent with the market environment, while others pointed to subdued spot buying at elevated copper prices and expected a rollover or a decline.
Fastmarkets also reported that arbitrage expectations between the London Metal Exchange and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange supported the higher offer. Its weekly assessment for grade A copper cathode delivered in Germany stood at 250 to 280 US dollars per tonne on October 6, below the annual 2027 offer.
What the premium means for investors
The reported premium can support Aurubis' revenue contribution from refined copper supplied to European customers, but its effect depends on customer demand, copper prices, concentrate availability and the share of supply covered by long-term contracts. The reported level is a market indication, not confirmed company guidance.
Aurubis stock traded at 133.45 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 14:35 CET on Friday, October 30. That was 2.56 percent below the 136.95-euro quote in the company's latest relevant report on October 28, a separate comparison from the daily Xetra close.
