AT&T stock: Connectivity growth meets spectrum-related debt

- AT&T reported a record quarter for internet additions and continued growth in converged customer relationships.
- The spectrum transaction increased leverage, while management kept its long-term fiber and shareholder-return plans in place.
AT&T's third-quarter update, released on October 21, 2026, added a stronger operating detail to the company's recent earnings story: internet and wireless connectivity additions remained robust while the balance sheet absorbed the EchoStar spectrum transaction. The figures come from AT&T's third-quarter release.
What has changed since our last report
AT&T added 769,000 Advanced Connectivity internet customers, including 442,000 fiber and 327,000 fixed-wireless additions. It also added 379,000 postpaid phone customers, with postpaid churn at 0.92 percent. The company said 42.8 percent of households using its advanced home-internet services also selected AT&T wireless.
Advanced Connectivity service revenue grew 6.1 percent year over year to USD 23.9 billion, while adjusted EBITDA increased 5.4 percent to USD 12.5 billion at the consolidated level. The reported picture was less favorable: diluted earnings per share from continuing operations were USD 0.13, reflecting a USD 2.6 billion non-cash impairment tied to the planned sale of AT&T Mexico and employee separation charges. Adjusted EPS was USD 0.65.
Growth comes with funding pressure
AT&T reported USD 149.8 billion of net debt and USD 159.6 billion of total debt at September 30. Management said the increase reflected the closing of the USD 23 billion EchoStar spectrum transaction. The company expects its net-debt-to-adjusted-EBITDA ratio to return to the 2.5x range during 2029.
Management raised its 2026 adjusted EPS outlook to the USD 2.40 range and kept its expectation for at least USD 18 billion of free cash flow. Capital investment is planned at USD 22 billion to USD 23 billion annually in 2027 and 2028, while AT&T remains on track to reach more than 60 million fiber locations by the end of 2030. This combination supports the growth case but leaves debt reduction and execution central to the investor assessment.
