ASML Holding stock faces a longer AI-led order horizon as customers consider equipment for 2029 and 2030. Capacity expansion remains the key execution question.

Demand visibility and execution risk

  • Customers are considering ASML equipment orders for 2029 and 2030 as AI investment extends planning horizons.
  • Planned supply for 2027 and 2028 is expected to fall short of demand, putting capacity expansion and execution at the center of the outlook.
  • Third-quarter sales, profitability and system volumes improved from the second quarter, while full-year guidance remains supportive.

ASML Holding is preparing for a semiconductor equipment cycle that could extend well beyond the current planning horizon. In a third-quarter update dated October 14, customers increased their short- and medium-term forecasts and showed interest in equipment orders for 2029 and 2030, according to ad-hoc-news.de.

AI demand extends the planning horizon

Chief Executive Christophe Fouquet said customer forecasts are being driven mainly by expectations for the size and duration of artificial intelligence investment. ASML expects its currently planned supply for 2027 and 2028 to fall short of customer demand and is examining ways to expand 2028 capacity beyond the previously communicated 30 percent increase.

The longer order horizon improves visibility for ASML, but it also raises execution demands. Production expansion, customer timing and the ability of the specialized supplier base to support higher output will determine how quickly customer interest converts into deliveries and revenue.

Quarterly figures support the outlook

Third-quarter net sales reached 11.7 billion euros, compared with 9.3 billion euros in the second quarter. Gross margin rose to 57.5 percent from 54.0 percent, while net income increased to 5.0 billion euros from 2.9 billion euros. New lithography system sales climbed to 113 units from 86.

ASML expects fourth-quarter 2026 net sales of 14.2 billion to 15.2 billion euros and a gross margin of about 57 percent. Its full-year outlook calls for sales of 44 billion to 45 billion euros and a gross margin of about 56 percent. For investors, the combination of strong demand visibility and constrained planned supply supports the growth case, while the capacity ramp remains the central operating risk.
