American Express is extending its rewards strategy beyond card payments. In a release dated October 29, the company said eligible U.S. consumer cash-back cardholders can redeem Reward Dollars into an American Express High Yield Savings Account, while eligible business cardholders can use an American Express Business Checking account.

The latest move adds a new angle to the company story since our previous report. American Express stock traded at EUR 290.85 on Lang & Schwarz at 16:05 CET on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, 0.70 percent below the Xetra close of Monday, November 2. The comparison uses the Xetra close of EUR 292.90 reported by Yahoo Finance.

Deposits join the rewards proposition

American Express said consumer Reward Dollars can be redeemed into an eligible High Yield Savings Account at a 1:1 rate. Graphite Business Cash Unlimited cardholders can use the same rate for deposits into an eligible Business Checking account, with no minimum redemption amount.

The company said the funds can earn the applicable savings account annual percentage yield, with interest compounded daily and credited monthly. It also plans an automatic redemption feature for eligible consumer cardholders with an American Express High Yield Savings Account in 2027.

For investors, the strategy links card engagement with deposit gathering and the funding base. The next operating updates should show whether the new option supports deposit growth and how funding costs develop as card balances expand.

Risk oversight remains in focus

American Express is also changing leadership for global risk and compliance. Jodi Richard, formerly vice chair and chief risk officer at U.S. Bank, is set to become American Express's chief risk officer and head of global risk and compliance on January 25, 2027, according to FinTech Futures. The appointment places funding growth and control quality alongside rewards economics in the investor debate.
