AMD's data-center revenue nearly doubled year over year. The company expects another acceleration in the fourth quarter.

AMD shifts growth toward data center

  • Data Center revenue surged 97 percent year over year as EPYC processors and Instinct GPUs drove demand.
  • AMD expects fourth-quarter revenue growth to accelerate, with non-GAAP gross margin projected at 55 percent.
  • The stronger mix increases AMD's exposure to AI infrastructure execution and supply-chain delivery.

Advanced Micro Devices delivered a record third quarter on November 3, with data-center demand driving a sharp improvement in revenue and profitability. In its AMD investor relations release, the chipmaker said revenue reached 13.4 billion US dollars, up 45 percent from the third quarter of 2025.

GAAP operating income rose 123 percent to 2.8 billion US dollars, while net income increased 95 percent to 2.4 billion US dollars. Diluted GAAP earnings per share climbed to 1.46 US dollars from 0.75 US dollars a year earlier. On a non-GAAP basis, earnings per share rose 74 percent to 2.09 US dollars and operating margin expanded to 29 percent.

Data center becomes the growth engine

AMD's Data Center segment generated record revenue of 8.5 billion US dollars, up 97 percent year over year and 27 percent from the second quarter. The company attributed the advance to demand for fifth-generation EPYC processors and the launch of Instinct MI450 Series GPUs.

Client and Gaming revenue fell 8 percent to 3.7 billion US dollars. Client revenue increased 7 percent, but gaming revenue dropped 40 percent to 773 million US dollars as semi-custom and graphics sales declined. Embedded revenue rose 29 percent to 1.1 billion US dollars, supported by aerospace and defense, automotive, communications and industrial markets.

Chief Executive Lisa Su said demand for Instinct and EPYC products continued to strengthen. She expects growth to accelerate in the fourth quarter as AMD scales Helios and Venice production. Chief Financial Officer Jean Hu said the outlook reflects accelerating revenue and earnings growth across the Data Center portfolio.

Fourth-quarter outlook raises execution stakes

AMD expects fourth-quarter revenue of 17 billion US dollars, plus or minus 3 percent. The midpoint implies year-over-year growth of 66 percent and sequential growth of 27 percent. Non-GAAP gross margin is expected at 55 percent.

The forecast puts supply execution and product ramp-up at the center of the investment case. AMD's expanding data-center mix supports operating leverage, but it also increases the importance of timely deliveries, manufacturing capacity and customer adoption of new AI systems. The company said its fourth-quarter outlook is based on current expectations and remains subject to market, supply-chain and competitive risks.

AMD stock traded at 390.08 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 13:00 CET on Friday, November 6, 2.09 percent above the Xetra close of Thursday, November 5. The comparison uses the Xetra close of 382.10 euros.

For investors, the next key test is whether the Helios and Venice ramps convert the current Data Center momentum into sustained revenue and margin expansion. The fourth-quarter results will provide the next direct read on demand, execution and the balance between AI infrastructure growth and weaker gaming activity.
