- AWS revenue accelerated 39 percent year over year, reaching a 184 billion US dollar annualized run rate.
- Amazon forecast fourth-quarter sales of 240 billion to 247 billion US dollars and operating income of 28.5 billion to 33.5 billion US dollars.
- Artificial intelligence investment pushed trailing twelve-month free cash flow to a 42.4 billion US dollar outflow.
Amazon reported its third-quarter results on October 29, 2026, with cloud growth accelerating but artificial intelligence investment weighing heavily on cash generation. The company also issued its outlook for the critical holiday quarter. The SEC filing of Amazon third-quarter results is the primary source for the figures.

AWS becomes the earnings engine
Amazon's third-quarter net sales rose 12 percent year over year to 201.9 billion US dollars. Operating income increased from 17.4 billion US dollars to 28.1 billion US dollars, lifting the operating margin to a company record of 13.9 percent.
Amazon Web Services remained the central growth driver. AWS sales advanced 39 percent to 46.0 billion US dollars, while segment operating income climbed from 11.4 billion US dollars to 17.8 billion US dollars. The cloud division reached a 184 billion US dollar annualized revenue run rate. Chief Executive Andy Jassy said investment in AWS functionality and infrastructure was working and projected growth above 40 percent in both 2027 and 2028.
The acceleration was broad enough to support the longer-term investment case. Amazon said Fortune 500 spending on its Bedrock inference service was nearly seven times higher than a year earlier, while Bedrock token volume increased nearly 17 times. The company also highlighted rising adoption of its custom AI accelerators and agent-building services.
AI spending keeps cash flow under pressure
The investment cycle is creating a sharper near-term financial trade-off. Trailing twelve-month operating cash flow rose 29 percent to 168.3 billion US dollars, but free cash flow swung from a 14.8 billion US dollar inflow to a 42.4 billion US dollar outflow. Amazon attributed the reversal primarily to a 94.8 billion US dollar year-over-year increase in purchases of property and equipment, mainly reflecting AI investment.
Capital intensity is therefore a central issue for shareholders even as AWS margins improve. Amazon continues to expect cash capital expenditures of approximately 220 billion US dollars for 2026. Jassy also indicated that the scale of investment will remain important as the company adds capacity for cloud and AI workloads.
Holiday guidance raises execution stakes
Amazon expects fourth-quarter net sales of 240.0 billion to 247.0 billion US dollars, representing growth of 12 percent to 16 percent from the year-ago quarter. The company forecast operating income of 28.5 billion to 33.5 billion US dollars, above the 25.0 billion US dollars recorded in the fourth quarter of 2025. Advertising revenue is expected to grow in the high teens, after timing effects linked to Prime Day limited third-quarter growth to 12 percent excluding foreign exchange.
For investors, the next report will show whether AWS momentum and retail demand can expand quickly enough to absorb the cost of new infrastructure. The results also underline why Amazon's equity story now depends on both long-term AI monetization and a path back to stronger free cash flow.
Amazon trades in the context of the U.S. equity market, with the S&P 500 as the relevant broad benchmark.
